Minister’s charge against media

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran has accused the media of trying to propagate lies that there are differences between the Minister and Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.

Speaking to mediapersons at the Government Guesthouse here on Monday morning, Mr. Sudhakaran said certain sections of the media had “tied up” with the United Democratic Front and were trying to blow the Sabarimala ‘aravana’ issue out of proportion.

The Minister said he arrived in Alappuzha from Kasaragod only in the morning. After attending an important meeting at 10 a.m. on the ongoing strike by small scale coir units, there was no way he could reach Thiruvananthapuram before 11 a.m. for the Chief Minister’s meeting, he said, adding that some vested interests in the media had already circulated rumours that he was staying away from the meeting due to differences of opinion with Mr. Achuthanandan.

Accusing the former Devaswom Minister K.C. Venugopal of not knowing the sanctity of certain practices of the Hindu religion since it was Mr. Venugopal who initiated the practice of supplying ‘aravana’ in tins at Sabarimala, Mr. Sudhakaran said aravana was a ‘prasadom’, which was given to the devotees in their hands.
