Threat to blow up airports on January 12
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Days after the capital was put on high alert following a warning by intelligence agencies of a terror attack, an anonymous e-mail threatening to blow up airports in the country on January 12 has been received by an airline call centre.
The Gurgaon-based call centre of Air India received the e-mail on Saturday. A First Information Report has been lodged at a Gurgaon police station.
“The anonymous mail said airports would be bombed on January 12. Since it does not specify anything particular, this kind of threat falls under the ‘non-specific’ category, which is a low-level threat. But since it pertains to the law and order situation, we referred the case to the police which is investigating the matter,” said an Air India official on Monday.
A Delhi International Airport (Private) Limited spokesperson said: “We have not received any specific communication regarding the bomb threat. However, along with our security agencies, we are geared to face any such eventuality.”
Officials of the Central Industrial Security Force, which supervises security at Delhi airport, said they had taken all steps to counter any adverse situation even though it was a non-specific threat and did not mention any particular airport.
