Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted the Central Bureau of Investigation two more months to submit its final report on the March 14 police firing in Nandigram. Counsel for the CBI submitted a status report on its findings before a Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice S.S. Nijjar and Justice P.C. Ghose and sought four months to give the final report. The Bench, however, directed it submit the final report by February 15, 2008. The court had on November 16 asked the agency to present its report within a month. Rizwanur caseIn another ruling, the court directed the CBI to submit by January 8, 2008 its report on the death of Rizwanur Rahman, a computer graphics teacher, whose body was found under mysterious circumstances near the rail track near here on September 21. The report was to have been submitted during the day in accordance with an earlier order, but the agency’s counsel filed a petition before Justice Soumitra Pal seeking further time.
