Coir fair generates orders worth Rs. 45 crore

KOCHI: The second edition of the India-International Coir Fair that concluded here last week yielded firm orders worth Rs.45 crore from buyers.

There were trade enquiries worth Rs.105 crore which could materialise into firm orders in the short and medium terms, said a statement from Coir Board Chairman A.C. Jose here on Monday.

The India International Coir Fair-2007 was organised between December 7 and 11 and was aimed at establishing a biennial fair to draw international buyersthe Board chairman said.

Mr. Jose said that the orders, which benefit a spectrum of exporters and manufactures, were quite sizeable considering that Indian export of coir and coir products were worth just over Rs.600 crore during the last financial year. The percentage of business that emerged at the India International Coir Fair in proportion to the existing business is 13.45 per cent.
