Thrilling win for South

HYDERABAD: South Zone recorded a thrilling, four-run win over North Zone in the preliminary round of the second, New India Assurance all India inter-zonal cricket tournament here on Monday.

The scores: Mumbai Head Office 236 for five in 20 overs (Shailesh Sastry 77 not out, Anand Venkat 65) bt Central Zone 105 in 16.2 overs (T. Sashank 43).

East Zone 117 for nine in 20 overs lost to West Zone 118 for three in 16 overs.

South Zone 173 for nine in 20 overs bt North Zone 169 for eight in 20 overs.

Railways ‘A’ wins title

Railways ‘A’ won the fourth Kasala Ramaswamy & Laxmi Devi memorial volleyball tournament defeating Railways ‘B’ 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 in the final at the Audiahnagar Playground here.

Andhra Pradesh got the better of VVR Club 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22 to settle for third place.

Eashwar slams century

A century by Eashwar Prasad (118) for St. Mary’s College (Yousufguda) went in vain as his team suffered a two-wicket defeat at the hands of AV College in the Osmania University inter-college cricket tournament for Ranga Reddy Trophy here.

The scores: St.Francis College 123 (Deepak Kumar five for 21) lost to VV College- Day 124 for five.

IIMC 142 (T.Sai Kiran 42, Srikanth Yadav five for 25) lost to Nruptunga 144 for four (Anshu Sinha 69 not out).

Mallareddy IM 162 (Vikram 50, Mahipal four for 38) lost to OU College of Arts & Science 164 for six (Narasimha Rao 50).

VV College-Evening 143 lost to Jagruti College 144 for nine (Arvind 54).

GCPE 246 for nine (Kumar 58, Anji 51, Nagaraj four for 58) bt OU College of Technology 114 (Hari five for 26).

Mumtaz College 204 (Salamat 44) bt Bhavan’s College, Narayanaguda, 197 (Sandeep 57).

St. Mary’s College, Yousufguda, 254 (Eashwar Prasad 118, Antony four for 32) lost to AV College 255 for eight (Fayaz 70, Shiva Prasad 60).

St. Ann’s wins trophy

St. Ann’s College (Mehdipatnam) won the Osmania University inter-zonal volleyball women’s tournament defeating City Combined team 25-16, 25-16 in the final at Mahabubnagar, according to information received here.

Other results: Round-robin league: St. Ann’s, Mehdipatnam, bt Mahbubnagar & Nalgonda 25-2, 25-3; City Combined Team bt Nizamabad 25-12, 25-15; City Combined Team bt Nizamabad 25-0, 25-2; City Combined Team bt Mahabubnagar & Nalgonda 25-10, 25-15.

Easy win for The Hindu

The Hindu recorded a five-wicket win over Deloitte Consulting in the third JDA Corporate Olympiad corporate cricket tournament here.

The scores: Techpoint Solutions 201 (Shane 78) bt Microsoft 147 (Satish four for 19).

Deloitte Consulting 129 for eight lost to The Hindu 133 for five (Faiz Ahmed 54).

Narrow win

HMWWSB recorded a three-wicket win over BHEL in the A-Institution league cricket championship here.

The scores: BHEL 172 (Bhargav 42) lost to HWWSB 174 for seven (Sunil 42).
