Students bring in Christmas spirit

Correspondent

BANGALORE: Students of Bishop Cotton Boys’ High School invited some guests over for lunch on Sunday. Not one or two, but over 5,000 of them. The guests — from underprivileged schools, old-age homes and orphanages — enjoyed being at the Christmas Fellowship Lunch hosted by the cotton’s fraternity. The Christmas spirit caught on as the hosts entertained the guests through a variety entertainment programme that included carol singing and a dance, presented by the teachers. Later, the guests were served a sumptuous lunch by the students.

The joy of being part of the programme was evident as Shahjahan and Venkatesh, both from APSA Namma Mane, danced away merrily to the Christmas songs. “I like the programmes they have and enjoy myself here,” Shahjahan said.

Gideon, a Class X student who lives in St. John’s Hostel, said he had been attending the programme for the past three years and what he liked most was the camaraderie among students. “They serve food with love and treat us with dignity. When I grow up, I will do my bit for underprivileged children,” he said.

Yogeshwari, a teacher at Planet Hope, said about 120 children from her orphanage participated and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the programme. Principal John Ellis said that his students were aware of the plight and the needs of the guests and even teachers and parents had pitched in for the event with donations and help.
