Saplings planted

At the annual inspection of Government Higher Secondary School, Arimalam in Pudukottai district, Chief Educational Officer S. Chellam planted saplings on the premises. District Educational Officer, Aranthangi, G. Venkatasamy spoke. School Headmaster Charles Amirtham Samuel, Deputy School Inspector, District Educational Officer, Aranthangi, Periayya, District Coordinator of National Green Corps A. Arangan and School Green Corps Coordinator Nirmal took part.

Integration week

National Integration Week was observed at Government Higher Secondary School, Killukottai, Pudukottai district. As a part of the celebration, Tuesday was observed as ‘Minority Day,’ Thursday as ‘Women’s Day’ and Friday as ‘Cultural Unity Day.’ Fancy dress competition was conducted marking the occasion. Students were dressed as representatives of different states. School Headmaster B. Sukumar distributed prizes to the winners. Assistant Headmaster M. Mahindran and staff K. V. Rajendiran coordinated the events.

Arts bonanza

As a part of Children’s Day celebration, Arts and Craft bonanza conducted at Vairams Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai. The fest provided opportunity for the students of all classes to showcase their talents. A. Bhuvaneswari of Mulari Malar Art and Craft Centre presided over the function and distributed prizes to the winners. Principal (in-charge) S. Subramanian offered felicitations.

AIDS rally taken out

With the theme ‘Ini Oru Vidhi Seivom,’ the students of Star English School, Kumbakonam, took out a rally to mark the World AIDS Day. A decked-up car stuck with awareness posters was taken out in a procession. Shouting slogans such as “Life is precious – beware of AIDS”, the students spanned areas in and around the city, while the members from self-help groups took out a similar rally in rural areas. School Principal Clara presided.

Road safety camp

A Road Safety camp for girls was conducted by TVS Motors and Sarrada TVS at Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai. Senior Principal Jonathan Jayabarathan inaugurated the camp and released ‘Road Safety Digest,’ a booklet containing dos and don’ts of road usage. The booklets were distributed to the students. R. Sridharan, a project leader from TVS Motors, highlighted the need for road safety awareness among students. He observed that most road-users were not aware of various traffic signs. In his presentation, he explained interpretation of traffic signs and ways to differentiate between mandatory, information and cautionary signs. Assistant Manager (Sales), TVS Motors, Chennai, N. Naveen Varma, outlined the character of good motorist, adding that road-users were responsible for their safety and safety of others on road. An interactive session followed, wherein students said that conditions of the road must be improved to prevent road accidents. A quiz contest on traffic rules, hand signals and traffic signs was conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners.

Bharathi anniversary

The 125th birth anniversary of national poet Subramania Bharathi was celebrated at the Tamil Literary Association of the Al’Ameen Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam recently. School Principal S. Syed Abdul Subhan presided over the function and explained in detail the crucial role played by the poems composed by Bharathi in the freedom struggle. Many students spoke on Bharathi’s life history and his contribution to Tamil literature and Tamil society. The students participated in cultural programmes held in the end. School correspondent M. Kamaludeen and Tamil teacher S. Asha offered felicitations.
