Some 365 house surgeons and post-graduates have been on mass leave since Saturday Kakinada: Medical services at Kakinada Government General Hospital (GGH) were hampered due to the abstention of junior doctors from duties. The senior doctors have also joined the protest but they handled emergency cases. Out patients who came from other places bore the brunt of the stir and some of them staged a demonstration on the hospital premises venting their anger at the government for its alleged failure to reach an amicable settlement with the junior doctors. The patients also conveyed their anguish to the doctors, that common people like them were affected by the ongoing struggle and appealed to them to resume duties on humanitarian grounds. Many patients returned due to the non-availability of doctors. Some 365 house surgeons and post-graduates have been on mass leave since Saturday in protest against the attack on a student-doctor at Government Maternity Hospital in Hyderabad a few days ago. Meanwhile, the GGH authorities claimed that patient care was not affected and emergencies were being attended immediately. GGH superintendent doctor Surya Kumar is personally monitoring the situation to ensure that there is no major problem due to the doctors’ protest.
