Kakinada: District Collector M.Subrahmanyam called upon the members of fishermen community to strive for protection of the marine ecology so that the marine species are protected and the environment is secure. He was speaking after flagging off a motorcycle rally being organised by the Indian Coast Guard in connection with its 31st Raising Day celebrations, at the collectorate here on Monday. The rally came from Kanyakumari via Tuticorin, Mandapam, Chennai, Ongole and Machilipatnam and it is bound for Kolkata, covering a total distance of 2,100 kilometres. State Institute of Fisheries Technology principal scientist S.Prakasa Rao welcomed the eight-member team which is led by Coast Guard Deputy Commandant Maneesh Kumar. The collector suggested to the fishermen to catch only those species that are useful for consumption lest precious marine resources should be wasted. They should contribute their mite for protecting the environment so that it will be clean and sustain future livelihood. Indian Coast Guard Station Commandant K.K. Bahuguna, District Revenue Officer M.Mohan Raju, Fisheries Department Assistant Director Rammohan Rao and others were present.
