I request the Railways to take steps for operating new trains in the following timings for the benefit of the commuters of Tiruchi, Karur, Erode and Coimbatore districts: 1) The cancelled Tiruchi-Mangalore Express may be resumed between Tiruchi and Coimbatore observing the same timings of 6 a.m. at Tiruchi, as the advanced timings of existing Chennai- Mangalore express (No. 6607) is not suited for office goers from Tiruchi to Karur, Erode and Tirupur. 2) Normally, government servants working in Karur district were originally recruited from areas under Tiruchi employment exchange and having residence at Tiruchi even after bifurcation of Karur from Tiruchi district. In particular, employees working in TNPL, Pugalur, MNCs, and Central and State Government employees are daily commuters from Tiruchi. Their long desired wish is to reach Tiruchi by 7 or 7.15 p.m. after close of office hours. As there is no fast passenger/express train now, they have to travel by (No. 882) Erode-Tiruchi passenger which reaches Tiruchi by 8.40 p.m. every day. Hence it is requested to operate a fast passenger/express train in the evening. The timing may be: at Erode 5 p.m.; Pugalur 5.45 p.m., Karur 5.55 p.m.; Kulithalai 6.30 p.m. and Tiruchi 7.10 p.m. The proposed Tiruchi-Coimbatore-Tiruchi Express train may also be operated as above from Coimbatore. 3) Erode-Tiruchi passenger (No. 882) may be rescheduled an hour late by 5.30 p.m. instead of 4.30 p.m. after the above-mentioned express/fast passanger train. This will facilitate return of textile workers from Erode and Karur. When it reaches Karur Junction by 7 p.m., all textile workers can easily board the train. Now Mangalore-Chennai train is mostly overcrowded, as the Erode-Tiruchi passenger will have normally left Karur by 6.10 p.m. 4) The idling Tiruchi -Karur passenger train which arrives in Karur by 11.20 a.m. may be operated up to Erode and on all Sundays. V. Ramachandran, Koothur –post, Mannachanallur Taluk. Exam bunglingIt is shocking to learn that complaints of irregularities in open competitive examinations for the post of Group II subordinate services conducted by the TNPSC have been reported. This complaint was strange as far as TNPSC exams are concerned. TNPSC had achieved a good name for its fairness. Such irregularities would dishearten thousands of unemployed youths who were toiling very hard to clear the competitive examinations. I request TNPSC to take stringent action against the officials who were responsible for this episode. R. Ganesan, Mayiladuturai Roads damagedThe heavy downpour a few days ago has further damaged the roads in Vallam town near Thanjavur. Big craters have appeared on the road near the Main Bazaar Junction, causing much difficulty to vehicle-users. I request the highways authorities to take steps for relaying the road with immediate effect. V. Murugesan, Thanjavur Comfortable journeyRecently I travelled by a passenger train from Thanjavur to Tiruchi, which leaves Thanjavur junction at 6.30 a.m. The train reached Tiruchi Junction at 7.55 a.m. and the charge was only Rs. 10. I had a very convenient journey. I request the railways to operate passenger trains in the Tiruchi-Thanjavur section every one hour and round the clock. It should also give wide publicity for the passenger trains. Kaliyamoorthy Kumar, Thanjavur ConfusingBuses are parked irregularly at the Bus Stand, thereby confusing passengers. The crew and conductors may be advised to park them at prescribed places. Moreover, all minibuses may be brought outside the bus stand and be parked so that the congestion may be minimised. K. Santhanam, Kumbakonam Welcome rulingI welcome the Madras High Court’s ruling that local body officials need not issue a show-cause notice before disconnecting water supply for illegal suction using electric pump and that the principle of natural justice would not apply in such cases as it involves flagrant violation of government standing orders _prohibiting suction of water from civic pipe lines _ as spotted by officials (vide The Hindu dated 5-11-07). Will the local administration call for cooperation of all parties, in this matter and ensure that the entire guidelines are observed in toto in all urban local bodies? R.S. Moorthy, Karur
