An article titled “Equipped better now” (published on Page 2 of the December 16, 2007, issue of The Hindu), which reports the diploma presentation ceremony for Sri Lankan students trained at the SRM University School of Journalism & Mass Communication, said, “Historian and dean of the journalism school S. Muthiah recalled that the syllabus they had drawn up for the fledging school was not entirely suited for the needs of these journalists with two to 25 years of experience.”
Mr. Muthiah clarifies that what he said was that the syllabus drawn up was too basic for journalists of their experience.
He added that after interaction with the trainees it was revised to cater to their requirements, namely English, translation into Tamil, computer and page layout skills, audio visual communication and new media.
