College to organise theatre festival in February

BANGALORE: “Abhinaya,” a national-level theatre festival will be organised during February-March 2008 by Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College here.

College principal M.A. Dinesh told presspersons here on Monday that colleges, institutions and amateur theatre groups can participate in the festival during which each troupe can stage a 45-minute play.

Competition

The theatre festival would feature competitions in Kannada, Hindi and English language categories.Preliminary rounds of the competition will be held on February 15 and 16 on the college premises and pre-final has been scheduled on February 18 and 19. The finals would be held at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on March 8, he said.

As a part of the festival, a four-day workshop has been organised from February 20 in which theatre personalities will speak on theatre related issues, Mr. Dinesh said. “We want more students from rural areas to participate in the festival,” he added.
