NEW DELHI: The St. Stephen’s College Students’ Union on Monday expressed its resentment over “hooliganism of certain elements who invaded the college campus” last Friday in connection with the sexual harassment charges levelled by a US student against a faculty member. ‘Motivated’“These elements, who have no locus standi, are motivated by political agendas and seek to target our college. We denounce the attempts made by these people to force their way into the Principal’s (Valson Thampu) office and to coerce him into disclosing the details of the alleged sexual harassment complaint filed with the College Complaints Committee,” said students’ union president Boban Varghese Paul. “This particular demand amounts to a violation of Clause 3 of ‘enquiry procedures’ outline in Ordinance XV-D of Delhi University’s policy of sexual harassment under which strict confidentiality has to be maintained regarding the complaint till the committee submits its final report,” he maintained. Last week, an American student who was enrolled at St. Stephen’s College for a short duration course in Sanskrit language had alleged that a teacher had tried to molest her. On Friday, Delhi University Students’ Union vice-president Devraj Tehlan reportedly tried to enter the college seeking details of the incident. The union president urged everyone to await the decision of the committee.
