Police yet to trace killer car in Lodhi Road case

Staff Reporter

Trying to get info on blue Esteems registered in the Capital

Both the injured policemen still critical

“Senior cops assure best treatment for Raut”

NEW DELHI: The police are trying to track down all the blue and dark blue Maruti Esteem cars in the Capital in a bid to trace the vehicle that was involved in the accident on Lodhi Road in South Delhi early on Sunday morning in which four persons, including two policemen and a Home Guard, were injured.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anil Shukla said on Monday that several teams were on the job trying to ascertain how many blue Maruti Esteem cars were registered in the Capital. This would just be the preliminary exercise as in the absence of a detailed description the police would have to tap all possible sources of information to ascertain which car was involved in the accident, the DCP said.

Meanwhile, the conditions of Home Guard Company Commander Harish Raut and Constable Rameshwar, both of whom have been admitted to the ICU of the AIIMS, continued to remain critical.

“The doctors said he would take five days to get normal but now they are not sure if he would be able to retain his memory as he had received serious internal injuries in the head. They told me that he might have to be operated upon,” said Ami Raut, brother of Harish. He said senior police officers had assured him of all possible help and best possible treatment for his brother. The condition of Head Constable Ramesh Chander was said to have marginally improved.

It was around 2-30 a.m. on Sunday that a speeding vehicle had crashed into the barricades opposite Sai Baba Mandir on Lodhi Road leaving the three policemen and a freelance photographer, Vinod Kumar, injured. Vinod, who was riding a motorcycle, had been stopped by the police for a routine check. The pillion rider on the motorcycle and a Home Guard constable, Rajender, who was also part of the police team, had a providential escape.
