Staff Reporter
It was seized at Moodanapalya near Nagarabhavi for lack of necessary documents and permission
BANGALORE: The Bangalore Urban forest officials on Monday seized a temple elephant in Moodanapalya near Nagarabhavi for lack of necessary documents and permission.
According to Deputy Conservator of Forest Vanashree Vipin Singh, the eight-year-old male elephant Rajagopal was being used by a temple without the permission of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife).
No shelter
The elephant was not taken care of properly and did not have any shelter. It was found sleeping on the road on Sunday, she said.
The elephant was seized and was sent to the rescue centre in Bannerghatta Biological Park. Ms. Singh said the temple authorities had brought the elephant from Assam with the permission from the State Government concerned.
The temple authorities had failed to take permission from the forest official for over two months.
