Top Maoist leader held in Kerala?
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Maoist ideologue and writer Varavara Rao alleged that the Andhra Pradesh police had arrested a top naxalite leader, Malla Raji Reddy, in Ernakulam, Kerala, and demanded that he should be produced in a court of law immediately.
He said Malla Raji Reddy, a central committee member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), was arrested along with a woman in Ernakulam on Monday evening by the Andhra Pradesh police. However, when contacted, top police officers maintained that they did not have any information in this regard.
Mr.Varavara Rao feared threat to the life of Malla Raji Reddy alleging that there were instances earlier when naxalite leaders who were arrested were killed in cold blood. "Wadkapur Chandramouli and Sande Rajamouli, both central committee members, were arrested and shot dead in fake encounters. We fear that the same would happen in case of Raji Reddy. He should be produced in court immediately," Mr. Varavara Rao demanded. He said he got reliable information about the arrest of Raji Reddy along with a woman in Ernakulam in Kerala. "Lot of people who were witness to the arrest had also gone to the police station there," he said over telephone.
