VISAKHAPATNAM: The Government had not bothered to improve the facilities in the Government hospitals and did not react in the required manner when doctors and staff in hospitals were being attacked, Deputy Floor Leader of Progressive Democratic Front in Legislative Council M.V.S. Sarma said. The Government did not arrest those responsible for the attacks for the sake of its political advantage, Mr. Sarma said in a statement. Had the Government taken the right measures when junior doctors were attacked in the Niloufer Hospital the attacks on them at Nayapul and ESI hospitals would not have happened, he observed and questioned how the doctors could discharge their duties when they were attacked without a reason. It was the responsibility of the Government to protect the doctors and an ordinance to that effect must be promulgated immediately, he said. The acts of Government would reduce the confidence of people on public health system and it should realise that patients would suffer a lot if medicare was not provided to them in time, Mr. Sarma said while extending his support to the demands of junior doctors.
