Call to shun autorickshaws without permit

TIRUNELVELI: The public have been asked not to travel in the autorickshaws, which are plying without permit, Transport Commissioner Chandra Prakash Singh has said.

In a circular sent to Regional Transport Offices, he stated that there were many complaints pertaining to operation of thousands of autorickshaws without permit here and in other parts of the State.

“Since all these vehicles are yellow, people cannot identify if the vehicle is a permitted one or not.”To solve this problem and identify vehicles not covered by permit , necessary amendment to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules Act, 1989 has been made and a new rule 364A introduced. Accordingly, autorickshaws, share autorickshaws and motor cabs not covered by permit should be painted in sky blue colour.

Therefore, while replacing the old autorickshaws by new ones or at the time of surrender of permit, permit holder has to produce the old autorickshaw painted in sky blue colour with the wordings ‘not for hire’ and painted at a conspicuous place in front and rear side of the vehicle.

The newly registered private autorickshaws should be painted in sky blue colour. This should be done before December 31.
