BEIJING: China Zhi Gong Dang (CZGD), one of China’s eight political parties, opened the 13th national congress here on Monday.

Xi Jinping, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met the delegates.

The CZGD has been mobilising members — overseas Chinese and those who returned to China from from different countries to work and live the country — to dedicate themselves to the revolution and reform, said Mr. Xi. The CZGD has played an important role in national independence, development, social progress and promoting reunification of China, he said.

Patriotic front

In line with the essence of 17th CPC National Congress, the CPC would develop socialist democratic politics and consolidate the patriotic united front and improve multi-party cooperation and political consultation, he said. Luo Haocai, chairman of 12th CZGD, said the party should contribute to building a comparatively well-off society in an all-round way.

The CZGD was founded in San Francisco in October 1925. It has more than 28,000 members. They are mainly from the middle and upper social strata of returned overseas Chinese and their relatives. In May 1947, the party held its third congress in Hong Kong, and reorganised itself into a new democratic party. The party has branches in 19 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government. — Xinhua
