Threatening call: 1 held

Thiruvananthapuram: The police have arrested a 36-year-old man on the charge of making a threatening telephone call stating that a person, Balakrishnan, will kill the Chief Minister of the State.

The call, which originated from mobile number 9349 673332, was received at the police control room at 3.40 p.m. The police found that the call had originated from the telephone used by M. Sarathchandran of Vazhayila.

Circle Inspector M. Radhakrishnan Nair, who arrested the suspect, said Sarathchandran had a history of mental illness. He had been treated at Government Mental Health Centre, Peroorkada. A divorcee, he is a mechanical engineering diploma holder.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said the suspect had told control room officials that Balakrishnan, who is being treated at the centre, would kill the Chief Minister.

The police had arrested Balakrishnan in 2005 on the charge of making a threatening call against the life of the Chief Minister.
