A veritable array for agriculture enthusiasts

A good collection: Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University C. Ramasamy going through a book after inaugurating a book exhibition in the University in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

COIMBATORE: The 55,000 volumes on display at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s book fair are a delight to any agriculture enthusiast. One can find books from basic biology to nano-technology.

The three-day fair inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor C. Ramasamy has an exhaustive collection of titles on many subjects besides agriculture.

Nearly 15 publishers from Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore and New Delhi, have put up stalls. There are books on biotechnology, nanotechnology, horticulture, agricultural engineering microbiology, soil science, agronomy, etc., to whet the appetite of a farm graduate. For the layman, there is a wide variety to choose from economics, journalism, mass media, communication, etc. There are also books to help students prepare for competitive examinations. There is something for everyone, according to their interests. They all come with 20 per cent discount.

M. Thangaraju, Director of Students’ Welfare, TNAU, said: “TNAU receives an annual grant of Rs. 10 lakh from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, for the purchase of books and journals for the university’s libraries. Students receiving fellowships have provisions to purchase books for research and reference.” He also said that the faculty of various departments could furnish the list of books they needed in order to place orders for the same with the publishers.

The exhibition is open till December 20 for students and public. Entry is free.
