They visited beaches, lakes, rivers and waterfalls in Kannur and neighbouring areas and were impressed by the immense potential of the region for adventure sports. The visit of Therese Marie Peterson, Andrew Charles Hershey and Micahel Lynn Logsdon, all professors at Adventure Sports Institute (ASI), Garett College, Maryland, Florida, the U.S., was hosted by the Chinmaya Institute of Technology (Chintech) here a s part of its initiative to introduce its management students to tourism and adventure zones. The ASI of Garett College is a reputed institution in the U.S. offering adventure sports degree programmes. The professors said the institute helped students acquire skills required of professionals in the field of adventure. The delegation met District Collector Ishita Roy on Monday to discuss their observations about the places they had visited over the past week. The delegation visited Muzhappilangad and Meenkunnu beaches, Cherupuzha, the Water Sports Complex at Mahe, Thusharagiri in Kozhikode, and Banasura Dam and Pookot Lake in Wayanad. A.T. Sebastian, Special Officer of the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board’s Adventure Sports Academy; E.C. Raveendran, secretary of the District Tourism Promotion Council; and K.K. Rajan, secretary of Chintech, were present at the meeting. The visitors said that they liked the beaches here, especially Meenkunnu and Muzhappilangad. They saw good potential for surfing here. They also saw potential for white water rafting in the Cherupuzha river. There was also scope for kayaking and rock-climbing in the region. The ASI delegates had offered to help Chintech start the training programme and provide staff for the training, he said. The proposal would be submitted to the State government. Mohamed Nazeer
