Special focus on ancient temples: Minister

SANGAREDDY: Minister for Endowments J. Ratnakara Rao laid foundation for construction of a guest house at the Ketaki Sangameswara Swami temple in Jherasangham on Tuesday which would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore. The Minister also laid foundation for development works at the temple premises to be taken up at a cost of Rs. 13 lakh and a shopping complex at a cost of Rs. 19 lakh.
Speaking to reporters, he said the State was committed towards protection of all the 34,000 temples under the Endowments Department. Special focus was being given to ancient temples. The decision to offer Rs. 1,500 monthly salary to archakas and Rs. 1,000 for ‘dhupa, deepa, naivedyam’ was aimed at reviving these temples.
