‘Statehood possible if 1969-like stir is repeated’ Need to create awareness among people underscored HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that he will stand by his decision to make a Dalit as the first Chief Minister of separate Telangana as the region has a high population of weaker sections. Addressing a training camp of girl students from various colleges at Telangana Bhavan, the party office, here on Tuesday, Mr. Rao said the party is committed to empowering SCs, STs, Backward Classes and minorities. He announced chief ministership for a Dalit in the separate State with a view to instilling confidence among the communities. The TRS president said separate Telangana would come into existence just like Jharkhand, which was separated from Bihar in spite of stiff opposition from the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad. The Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) set up obstacles for Telangana which need to be overcome, he added. He warned that Telangana would not get statehood if the violent agitation of the kind that was witnessed in 1969 is repeated. The goal could be achieved only by peaceful means by creating awareness among people, he said. TRS MLAs Naini Narasimha Reddy and T. Padma Rao were present.
