Bangalore: The Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath will hold its fifth annual Chitra Santhe for showcasing and encouraging several forms of native fine arts of the country, in the city on December 30. President of the parishath T. Prabhakar told presspersons here on Tuesday that Governor Rameshwar Thakur would inaugurate the Chitra Santhe in which over 1,000 artists, both professionals and amateur, from across the country would participate. Traditional oil and water paintings of Mysore, Thanjavur, Rajasthani and Madhubani schools of art, lithograph, acrylic and collage paintings, on-the-spot drawing and painting and interactive sessions would mark the event, he added. The parishath would incur an estimated Rs. 10 lakh for organising the Chitra Santhe. It had sought an assistance of Rs. 5 lakh from the Department of Kannada and Culture. It was hopeful of mobilising the rest from the Karnataka Lalithakala Academy and public contributions, Mr. Prabhakar said. General secretary of the parishath M. J. Kamalakshi said that this year’s santhe would be held under the slogan “Art for All.” It was expected to draw over one lakh art lovers from several parts of the country. The parishath had provided adequate number of stalls free of cost for display and sales purposes. Over Rs. 80 lakh worth paintings were sold in the previous chapter of the santhe, she added. Fifty-six art associations and groups from several parts of the country, including those from Kolkata and Delhi, would participate in the event.
