At the receiving end: J.C. Diwakar Reddy pulling up the contractor and officials over the poor quality of work done at the Zilla Parishad guest house in Kurnool on Tuesday.

KURNOOL: Minister for Panchayat Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy said the Government has decided to transfer 10 important responsibilities to local bodies as promised by the Congress during elections.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating the re-modelled guesthouse on the Zilla Parishad premises here on Tuesday, he said the local bodies would emerge as important institutions in future.

The Minister pulled up Zilla Parishad officials and contractor for poor quality of work in the guesthouse. He registered his displeasure with ZP chief L. Venkata Swamy also for not taking any initiative to ensure quality.

Roads

On the extensive damage caused to Panchayat roads by rains and floods this year, the Minister said the Government took steps to repair them with the resources available. The district was one of the few district, to get a lion’s share of funds for the works, he said.

The Minister lost his cool when a TV reporter tried to draw a comparison between the functioning of the TDP and Congress Governments. He said priorities vary from Government to Government. Nobody should fault with the Government for giving importance to irrigation and rural areas as it is the vision of the Congress Government, he said.

Kotla Jayasurya Prakasa Reddy, MP, legislator Gangula Pratap Reddy and others were present.
