Tsunami rehabilitation to be completed by 2009

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran has said that that several new works will be taken up as part of tsunami rehabilitation programmes this month in connection with the third anniversary of the tragedy.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the Minister said that these would include works under a special package for Alapad in Kollam district. Mr. Rajendran said that schemes with total outlay of Rs.1188.89 crore were being implemented as part of tsunami rehabilitation. The Centre had sanctioned schemes totalling Rs.1100 crore. The government was determined to complete these schemes by April 2009.

He said the total outlay for special package for Alapad was Rs. 42.12 crore.
