Letters to the Editor
The audacious jailbreak in the Dantewada prison of Chhattisgarh is a wake-up call to all the States to tighten security in jails. One wonders how almost 300 inmates could flee in just 15 minutes. Without the active cooperation and collusion of insiders, the escape would not have materialised. When the rifle of a guard was snatched, why did the other guards not open fire? The highly shameful incident throws a challenge to civilised society and the rule of law. What was the mode of transport the inmates used for fleeing? Had the authorities acted quickly, it would not have been difficult to capture them, given the huge number. The Chief Minister must resign owning moral responsibility for the episode. K.M.G. Vivekanandam, Madurai G. Anirudh, New Delhi K.S. Thampi, Chennai
