KOLKATA: At a time when management students continue to get job offers with astronomical salaries, IIM, Calcutta (IIM-C) has lined up an entrepreneurship summit to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among those of its students, who might be differently inclined. The event, which is to be held at the sprawling IIM campus at Joka on the south-western outskirts of the city, is being organised jointly with the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) an outfit for entrepreneurship education. Creating awarenessAn IIM-C communication said that the main objective of the event was to create awareness and excitement among the students about entrepreneurship. The sessions will be conducted by IIM-C alumni entrepreneurs, as well as role-model entrepreneurs known in their domain for their achievements, who will try to motivate and mentor the students to create jobs rather than run after them. The list includes Rediff CEO, Executive Director of Aravind Eye Hospital, ex-chairman, KPMG India, and ex- CEO Crossword Bookstore. Also associated with the event is an organisation called Intellisys Technologies and Research which aims to promote “an entrepreneurial eco-system in the country from the students of the engineering and management institutes.” Prof. Anjan Raichaudhuri, the faculty co-ordinator for the event from IIM-C said that entrepreneurship had been a major catalyst in transforming the economy and IIM-C alumni had contributed significantly in new venture creation.
