Coimbatore: After a few weeks of dry spell, a heavy rain lashed the city and nearby areas in the district during the day on Tuesday. The day that began with an overcast sky witnessed drizzles in the morning and it turned into a downpour in the noon and continued till evening.

The rain resulted in falling of tree branches disrupting power supply besides resulting in inundation and water logging of roads and underpasses at many places.

The water logging and the downpour resulted in traffic snarls at many places and most of the students and office goers were caught unawares.

The authorities said that the rainfall was widespread across the district.
