‘AP will set a model in healthcare’

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh will emerge a model State in providing high quality health care to the poor through innovative schemes like Rajiv Arogya Sri and emergency ambulance services (108), asserted Health Minister S. Chandrasekhar on Tuesday.

Inaugurating a hostel building and two classrooms constructed at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore at the Indian Institute of Health and Family Welfare (IIHFW), here, he said the rural poor who could not access quality medicare would now get it for major ailments, like cancer and cardiovascular diseases under the Arogya Sri programme.

108 service

He said about 20,000 lives were saved in the State since the launch of the 108 service. The helpline to create health awareness (104) would be extended to the State in six months. Health teams would tour every village once a fortnight and treat the poor under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

According to a press release, IIHFW is the nodal agency for conducting training and capacity-building programmes under NRHM.
