Mumbai: Hours after her husband Pravin Mahajan was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Sessions Court here, Sarangi on Tuesday said she did not need help from the Mahajan or Munde families. Pravin Mahajan was sentenced to life for shooting his elder brother and BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan on April 22 last year. Pramod died 12 days later in a city hospital.

“I don’t need any Mahajan or Munde. I am ready for the struggle and I have prepared my children for the same,” said a composed Ms. Sarangi.

“I will file an appeal in the High Court. Right now my priority is to save my husband and look after my children — Kapil and Vrushali,” she added, trying hard not to break down. Ms. Sarangi said she had full support from both her brothers Prasad and Shailendra Pulliwar, who stood by her throughout the trial. “Whatever happens, I have to fight.”

“I have not yet thought about politics,” she said in reply to a question. “But we have some money saved with which we can live comfortably.” She also expressed relief that Pravin had not been awarded death. “I am mentally prepared and I have prepared my children also for the struggle ahead,” she said. — PTI
