In Solidarity: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal, MP Jagdish Tytler and other party leaders coming out of Delhi Police Headquarters after meeting the Police Commissioner on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J.P. Agarwal on Tuesday led a party delegation to Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal to demand that the weekly bazaars and pavement sellers not be removed and instead a long-term plan be formulated in consultation with the Government to give them permanent status so that they are not harassed by the police. Accompanied by Member of Parliament Jagdish Tytler, Leader of Opposition in the MCD Jaikishan Sharma and Weekly Bazaar and Rehri Patri Union president O.P. Wadhwa among others, the DPCC president also cautioned that the Congress party would not remain a mute spectator if these small-time traders were harassed. The Delhi Congress leader said that on the one hand the Prime Minister was striving to create employment and remove poverty through the rural employment guarantee scheme, while on the other an attempt was being made to unsettle people who had been earning their livelihood through small businesses. He said the Congress would not shy away from coming out on the streets to protest in large numbers if needed.
