Painting event for social change

Thiruvananthapuram: The United Nations Population Fund-India (UNFPA) Arts for Social Change initiative is organising a national-level painting competition with the theme ‘Delighting in daughters’ to focus on the positive image and message of the girl child.

The contest is open to final year painting students of the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts courses. The first prize carries a purse of Rs.50,000. The second and third prizes will carry Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. UNFPA Centre for Media Studies (CMS) researcher Jaya Ghosh Sharma told a press conference here that 50 nominated paintings would receive Rs.50,000 each. The paintings that are nominated and selected in the contest will be taken on a country-wide travelling exhibition. Besides, the selected works will be showcased on UNFPA communication material. The winners will be announced in April next in New Delhi.
