Thiruvananthapuram: After their attempt to claim a place in the Guinness Book of World Records by making the tallest sandwich, the Udaya Samudra Leisure Beach Resort, Kovalam, is to make a huge cake this Christmas eve. Hectic preparations are on at the resort for preparing the 30-ft long, two-ft wide cake. It is expected to weigh 2,500 kg. The preparations started three weeks ago. Mercure Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, holds the record for the biggest cake. As many as 10 persons are working eight hours a day for preparing the cake. Udaya Samudra corporate director Raja Gopal Iyer said the baked delight, ‘Angel,’ will be cut to 22,000 pieces on December 24 at a function to be attended by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) Chairman Cherian Philip. As many as 12,000 pieces will be distributed at poor homes, old age homes and charity organisations. Besides, a magic show, live band, Santa Clause n’ Carole, fire works, royal delicacies and surprise gifts would be arranged at the hotel on the day. Mr. Iyer said a fabulous elephant buffet is also being organised in the hotel as part of the New Year celebrations on January 6.
