KOCHI: The Gemini Circus is back. This time around, they have Russian artistes in their repertoire. Trained in ballet dancing, the Russian professionals will perform new items like the ‘Russian stick balance.’ The eight-member team from Russia includes two children who are also the star performers at the show that will begin from Thursday at Manapattiparambu in Kaloor. Addressing a press meet here, Gemini Circus media coordinator Shrihari Nair said the troupe had reached the city after performances in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam. “We will be camping here for 45 days,” he said. “The Russian team’s acrobatics are awesome,” said Mr. Nair. “There is a family of four in the team — Valeri - Reema and their children Yana and Tehaan. They will perform a special item together,” he said. ‘Saawan Ka Joola’ — a vertical looping item performed by yet another team is also a highlight of the show, he said. Pocket cycle item and cycle acrobatics, well of death and the American ring of death by the artistes of the Gemini circus will also be performed. There will be a cricket game by elephants and ‘Dr. Elephant.’ Unlike the pathetic conditions of circus artistes in our country, Russian artistes are stars in their country, said Mr. Nair. There is academic encouragement for the art with a three-year course in Tashkent and they also have a special circus auditorium, he added. The shows will start at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the tickets are priced at Rs.25, Rs.50, Rs.100 and Rs.150.
