CPI (M) support for poor facing displacement

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday urged the government to take over the valuable Missamma bungalow compound land in Aravind Nagar here being occupied illegally by the Congress bigwigs of the town.

A team of the party comprising district secretary G. Obulakonda Reddy, town secretary V. Rambhupal, corporator P. Prasoona, A. Manohar, Rasool and others visited the disputed site on Wednesday and met the poor dwelling on the site for about last 35 years.

Pouring their woes, the poor, who were facing displacement, told the CPI (M) leaders that legislator B. Narayana Reddy had promised them before the last Assembly elections that they (poor) would given house site pattas on the same land and would be constructed houses. After receiving court notices to vacate the land about 20 days back they had approached the legislator. The latter had assured them that he would not allow the efforts to displace them stating that he would not allow anybody to ‘purchase’ the land, the residents told the CPI (M) leaders. But, within a few days the legislator himself had purchased the land, they alleged.

Mr. Reddy demanded that the government issue house site pattas to the families who were already living there and give the vacant site as house sites to other eligible poor.
