Smugglers decamp with timber haul

Priced residual : The leftover timber in the Mavala Reserve Forest being transported to the forest depot.

ADILABAD: Unknown smugglers felled over 20 teak trees on NH-7 near Seetagondi village under Mavala Reserve Forest in a night operation that took place on Monday and managed to cart away major logs.

They left behind the branches of the trees that were cut and those were transported to forest depot on Wednesday.

Modus operandi

The telltale marks on the tree stumps reveal the use of powered saw same. The logs were transported in a lorry that entered the area through a kutcha road. A case has been registered.
