BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering moving the Supreme Court if the Assembly elections are not held in January or February. Party State general secretary and spokesman S. Suresh Kumar told presspersons that party leader Arun Jaitley had been authorised to decide on whether to approach the court. Mr. Jaitley would announce the decision by January first week. The party had already submitted two memoranda to the Election Commission seeking elections in January or February. The Election Commission has to issue the notification in January first or second week if the elections are to be held as per the BJP’s demand in February. Prakash issueMr. Suresh Kumar said the former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash had shown interest in joining the BJP. Mr. Prakash had stated that he would make known his decision after the Gujarat polls, he pointed out. Mr. Suresh Kumar ruled out replacement of the State BJP president. He termed the campaign of some former Congress MLAs against Sakrama as only a “publicity stunt”. Pointing out that the Bill regarding the regularisation scheme had come up for discussion at the special legislature session in Belgaum about a year ago, he wondered why the Congress leaders, who attended the session, did not protest then. Mr. Suresh Kumar said the BJP had constituted 33 teams of its leaders for holding party workers’ conventions in Assembly constituencies from December 25 to January 20. The teams would submit their reports to the party State unit. The party would then finalise its poll strategy, Mr. Suresh Kumar said. Yeddyurappa returnsMeanwhile, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa returned to Bangalore on Wednesday after a two-day visit to Delhi, where he met party leaders. He told presspersons that there was no question of replacing the State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda.
