Airport work inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Wednesday inaugurated the “concrete-pouring” process for the first slab of the integrated Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) at Indira Gandhi International Airport here.
The Minister was apprised of the status of modernisation and development works being carried out by Delhi International Airport (Private) Limited to transform the airport into a world class facility.
Mr. Patel visited the construction site for the new passenger terminal building and the third runway.
“Work is progressing fast on the airport’s third runway that will be one of the longest runways in Asia. More than 69 per cent of the work on the runway and associated taxiways has been completed. The runway that is expected to be ready for use in mid-2008 will feature CAT III-B Instrument Landing System at both ends. This equipment will allow landings in visibility as low as 50 metres,” said a DIAL spokesperson.Mr. Patel also inspected modernisation work being carried out at the International Terminal.
DIAL is renovating Terminal 2 which will be complete next year.
