Bangalore: The Janata Dal (U) general secretary Shambhu Srivastava said on Wednesday that the party would not field candidates in all the 224 Assembly constituencies, but only at places where its chances of winning were good. Mr. Srivastava was speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a party conference here. The Janata Dal (U) would not go around seeking alliance with any party, including the BJP which was supporting the Nitish Kumar Government in Bihar. However, Mr. Srivastava pointed out that the party was not averse to having an alliance with any non-Congress party, including the Janata Dal (Secular). But he made it clear that the Janata Dal (U) would give priority to strengthening its State unit and then consider an alliance, depending upon the situation. Earlier, addressing the office-bearers, district unit presidents and workers, Mr. Srivastava exhorted them to strengthen the party. The party State unit president B. Somashekar and party leaders J.C. Madhuswamy, M.P. Nadagouda, Veeranna, Mohammed Nazeer Ahmed, Bhagirathi Naik and V. Venkatesh spoke.
