Justice D. Appa Rao HYDERABAD: Justice Desaraju Appa Rao of the High Court on Wednesday assumed charge as president of the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, succeeding I. Venkatanarayana, who retired on April 2 this year. Incidentally, he was elevated as a permanent judge of the High Court in the morning, after getting promoted as additional judge on January 4 last year. During the last eight months, G. Sheeresha was holding charge as in-charge president. T. Madan Mohan Reddy and A. Appa Rao, Secretaries, Law Department, and G. Bhupathi Reddy, member of the commission, were present when Justice Appa Rao took over the post. Earlier, on arrival in the afternoon at the commission, he was greeted by the staff and officials. Justice Appa Rao, along with the Law Secretary and the Commissioner of Civil Supplies, who is an ex-officio secretary to the Government, will comprise the committee to select candidates for the posts of presidents and members of districts. The post of president is vacant in the district consumer fora of Anantapur, Chittoor, Guntur, Hyderabad-III, Kurnool, Medak (at Sangareddy), Nizamabad, Ongole, Ranga Reddy and Srikakulam. The posts of members are vacant in the district consumer fora of Anantapur, East Godavari (at Kakinada), Hyderabad-I, Kurnool, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy (male) and Adilabad, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram (woman). The post of registrar in the commission is also lying vacant since August 2 this year when P. Jagannadha Rao was recalled by the High Court to be appointed as a special judge for speedy trial of embezzlement of scholarship amounts in the Social Welfare Department.
