Dumper scam gets murkier

Staff Correspondent

Opposition leader calls for detailed probe

Jamuna Devi

BHOPAL: The Leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Jamuna Devi, on Wednesday took a dig at some newspaper reports stating that the Income Tax Department had given a clean chit to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan over the alleged dumper scam issue.

Ms. Jamuna Devi circulated copies of a letter addressed to her by the Director-General of Income Tax (Investigation), M. K. Moghe, at a press conference at the Congress headquarters here saying this was to “nail the lie” and put the record straight.

The Income Tax Department letter said: “The Income Tax Department has not given any press release regarding the outcome of the investigation into the purchase of dumper by Mrs. Sadhana Singh. It is, therefore, not responsible for any story in respect of the same appearing in the newspapers.”

Ms. Jamuna Devi said: “Now there is a new twist to the alleged dumper scam”. She issued a two-page note carrying details of eight more dumpers (heavy vehicles) purchased in different names. She alleged that these dumpers, linked to Jaypee Cement factory in Rewa, had been purchased in the name of the brothers and sisters of the State Chief Minister’s spouse and sought a detailed probe into the matter.

Scope of probe

Advocate Ramesh K. Sahoo, on whose petition a special anti-corruption court here had ordered the Special Police Establishment of the Lokayukta to register an FIR in this case, also addressed the press conference.

He told media persons that he had written to the S.P. Special Police Establishment asking that the scope of investigation be extended to cover the purchase of these eight dumpers.
