Distribute Nidamanuru Wakf land to the poor: CPI (M)

Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded that the Government distribute immediately to the poor the land that belonged to the Wakf Board in Nidamanuru village.

CPI (M) Krishna district secretary V. Umamaheswara Rao, addressing a press conference on Wednesday, said High Court in a judgment on December 13 declared the sale of Wakf land as ‘illegal’ and rendered it null and void. Hence, the Government should distribute the land to the poor immediately. He also said his party would help the poor occupy the land if no steps were taken to distribute it. Mr. Rao said attempts were being made to encroach the land since 1994. Those trying to grab this land brought pressure on the Government to issue an order to sell the land. Finally an order was issued by the Congress Government in October 2004 fixing the price of the land at a tenth of the market value and it was disposed off after getting Wakf Board clearance.

CPI (M) organised dharnas demanding cancellation of GO Ms. No. 22. Realising its faux pas, the Government issued another G.O. cancelling the earlier one, he said.
