On climate change

This refers to the article “Global warming & India’s responsibility” (Dec. 18). The application of Aristotelian logic to fostering a solution to the problem of climate change is superb. One hopes such solutions emerge for problems such as population rise, rural economy, healthcare and micro credit administration too.

Raghu Seshadri,

Chennai

At the international level, developed countries need to share greater economic burden. In the same way, at home it is the rich and the middle class that have to take energy cuts. India can be hit hard by climate change as it is densely populated and is affected by energy scarcity, depleting resources and biodiversity. We should move towards CFL, public transport and eco-friendly technology, stop mindless consumerism and conserve water and power.

Pranav Sachdeva,

Since global warming is threatening the world, all countries must join hands to fight it. The need of the hour is to reduce our greenhouse gas emission and launch eco-friendly alternatives such as replacement of plastic bags with paper. As the saying goes, the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the second best is now.

Thangkhochon Haokip,

A shocking trend I observed while on a visit to my village was the availability of groceries in plastic pouches. Mega cities have gone beyond redemption but we can save at least our villages. It would be worthwhile to educate and involve locals in villages to remain vigilant against the use of plastic. Unless everyone is motivated to protect the earth, the indifference towards our environment will continue.

Nirmala Narayanan,

Bangalore
