Sensex up marginally
MUMBAI: The stock markets witnessed volatile trading on Wednesday with the 30-share Sensex ending marginally higher by 12.32 points at 19091.96 against 19079.64 on Tuesday. The Sensex opened strong at 19255.39 and moved in a range of 18886.96 and 19397.76 during the day. The CNX S&P Nifty of the National Stock Exchange gained 8.85 points to 5751.15. Stocks of consumer durables, technology and metal registered marginal gains.
VSNL shares gained sharply and closed at Rs. 714.25 on BSE against the previous close of Rs. 609.
Rupee weakens
The rupee lost five paise against the dollar on Wednesday and closed at 39.59/60 a dollar against 39.55 on Tuesday.
