Madhavan scores century

HYDERABAD: V. Madhavan scored his second century in a row (119 not out) to help Southern Zone record a convincing 104-run win over Eastern Zone in the New India Assurance All India inter-zonal cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

The scores: Eastern Zone 143 for six in 20 overs (V. Challha 51, Dipankar Bhattacharya 42) bt Central Zone 138 for six (Vikas S.Shrikhande 51).

Northern Zone 151 for eight (Parvesh Kumar 56) bt Western Zone 135 for eight.

Head Office, Mumbai 92 for eight (Jagdish Shetty 51 not out) bt Northern zone 89 for eight (Parvesh Kumar 40, Kedar Hudilkar four for eight).

Southern Zone 198 for two (V. Madhavan 119 not out, Raghunath 41) bt Eastern Zone 94.

Sunil, Suri shine

A fine knock of 64 by K. Sunil Naidu (64), who scored his third consecutive fifty in the event, and superb bowling by Suri Babu (five for 40) helped Nizam College score a comfortable 43-run win over Loyola Academy in the OU inter-college cricket tournament for the Ranga Reddy Trophy here.

St. Joseph’s Degree College scored a six-wicket win over Mumtaz Degree College in another match. Naveed Siddiqui hit 71 for the winner.

The scores: St. Patrick’s Degree College 99 (Datta six for 22) lost to VV College (Day) 100 for one (Nithin 53 not out).

Vasavi Engg. College 247 for eight (Himanshu 80) bt Nruptunga Degree College 152 (Karthik four for 13).

OU Arts College 168 (Sandeep 43) lost to Badruka 169 for three (Praveen 52, Karunakar 50).

Mumtaz Degree College 139 lost to St. Joseph’s Degree College 140 for four (Naveed Siddiqui 71).

Nizam College 213 (K. Sunil Naidu 64, M. Pradeep Kumar five for 35) bt Loyola Academy 170 (Sudheer Reddy 50, Suri Babu five for 40).

MJCET wins trophy

Muffakam Jah College of Engineering & Technology won the CCOB inter-college basketball tournament with a 48-37 win over St. Mary’s College (Yousufguda) in the final at City College here.

The scores:

MJCET 48 (Sankeerth 12, P. Varun 10, Shadab 10) bt St. Mary’s College, Yousufguda, 37 (Rohti 14, Bhargav 14, Kanna 13).

Ensconse reigns

Ensconse recorded a four-wicket win over Budding Stars in the A-Division league cricket championship.

The scores:

A-Division: Budding Stars 166 (A. Reagan Antony 40, M.A. Faheem four for 17) lost to Ensconse 167 for six (Shakir 45).

Continental 205 for two (Shiva 80) bt EMCC 161.

The scores: Vizag Veterans 153 for six in 20 overs (Nagendra Kumar 57) bt Champion CC 126 for nine in 20 overs (Srikanth four for 18).

Shankar CC 155 for three (Hemant 54, Sumit 45) bt Visakhapatnam CC 98 in 18 overs.
