Amit Khanna wins 100m

NEW DELHI: Former international athlete, Amit Khanna of the Ministry of Finance, sped away with the men’s 100-metre title with a timing of 11.32 seconds in the 43rd Inter-Ministry athletic meet at the Central Secretariat Sports Complex, Vinay Marg, here on Wednesday.

Satish Kumar (11.62) of the Cabinet and Pawan Singh (11.70) of Air Force Headquarters follwed the champion athlete to clinch the silver and bronze.

In the women’s section, another star athlete of yester years, Vijay Mala Bhanot of the Ministry of Finance, outclassed the field in discus with a throw of 34.65 metres, as she finished nearly 20 metres ahead of the silver medallist.

Mahavir Singh of the Air Force Headquarters clinched the 800 metres gold and the 400 metres silver. Satish Kumar of the Cabinet Secretariat was a class act in winning the 400 metres with a timing 59.60 seconds.

In the same fashion, Neetu Sharma of Cabinet Secretariat won the 800 metres gold and the 400 metres silver in the women’s section. She got beaten to the gold by team mate Sapna.
