3.29 lakh free dhotis, saris to be given away

PUDUKOTTAI: The district administration will distribute 3.69 lakh free dhotis and equal number of saris to those below poverty line in the district in connection with the Pongal festival.

Stating this during a meeting here on Wednesday, the Collector, D. Uthirakkumaran, said that the clothes would be distributed through ration shops. The list containing the names of eligible beneficiaries would be displayed at ration shops, panchayat offices and at the offices of the Village Administrative Officer. Tokens would be distributed to the beneficiaries prior to distribution. Zonal officers had been appointed for every taluk to monitor distribution of dhotis and saris. Arrangements had been made for the distribution from January 1 to 10, he said.

District Revenue Officer G. Prakasam and senior officials participated in the meeting.
