All is fair in science and humanities School notes



Learning: Treasurer of the Bangalore Science Forum Ramakrishna Rao interacting with students at the Science and Humanities Fair held at Sri Vani Education Centre, Basaveshwarnagar, Bangalore.

BANGALORE: Sri Vani Education Centre, Basaveshwarnagar, conducted a Science and Humanities Fair recently. Treasurer of the Bangalore Science Forum and Christ College professor Ramakrishna Rao inaugurated the two-day fair.

Mr. Rao interacted with the budding scientists and appreciated their talents. He also posed a volley of questions to ascertain their scientific temper and to boost their confidence.

He cited a number of simple day-to-day instances related to the applications of science.

Mr. Rao suggested that the teachers encourage students to ask more questions and develop a scientific attitude with reasoning skills.

The science fair covered different topics such as astronomy, nanotechnology and medicinal plants. Students from class four and above had put in efforts to prepare the working models of a motor lift, a rocket, a magnetic theatre and a spectroscope.

Visitors thronged the fun and balloon corners.

At the humanities fair, there was a live demonstration of the Indus Valley Civilisation. Students had also made projects in sports as well as arts and crafts too. The fair drew appreciation from parents as well as the students of neighbouring schools.

Sports meet

Excitement and enthusiasm was in the air at the annual sports meet of Rastrotthana Vidya Kendra, Thanisandra, held recently. Sundar Raj Urs, principal, University College of Physical Education, Bangalore University, was the chief guest and he declared the sports meet open.

The meet began with Athithi Pranam, salutations to the guests followed by a march past with children in their blue track suits.

In his address, Mr. Urs highlighted the importance of sports in everyday life.

He also said that the right balance between sports and academics would help an individual acquire qualities such as leadership, team spirit and self-discipline.

The various track and field events were interspersed with drill displays by children.

The drill display by pre-primary children with colourful paper fans received huge appreciation from the large gathering.

In the senior section (boys), Bopanna of class IX bagged the individual honours, while Shruthi and Yashashwini of class IX shared the honours in the girls section.

In the junior section, Pooyan and Vidhya Lakshmi were declared as the individual champions. Arjuna House bagged the maiden Overall Team Championship for excellent performance in all the events.

Headmistress Shylaja Krishna, secretary of the school Vishnukanth and general secretary of Rashtrotthana Parishat Dinesh Hegde were present.
